Hope St. Hostel

This is a standard form of building contract with Constructors Design 1998 edition (JCT 98) which consists of a three storey new build hostel accommodation, for The Potteries Housing Association, which is a modern replacement for the existing hostel accommodation on Sampson Street, Hanley. This brick and tiled roof structure will accommodate 26 bedrooms and 6 bed-sits with communal facilities. On this particular contract we utilised the expertise of Online Architects Ltd to design the building we will construct.

The Hostel is to be built on the birth place of Arnold Bennett, renowned Novelist and Playwright, who was born in Hanley in 1867. Arnold Bennett’s works include the play Milestones and Novels such as Anna of the Five Towns (1902), The Old Wives' Tale (1908), Clayhanger (1910) and Riceyman Steps (1923). One of the requirements of the contract is that the memorial plaque which was taken from the previous building, be re-attached to the new building. This is a fitting tribute for all to see.
