WBS Apprentices represent North West region in SkillBuild Competition
It is with great pleasure we can announce that this year we have two apprentices that have represented their local college in the SkillBuild competition.
Simon Barker, pictured right being congratulated by MD Stewart Bonnette, a 3rd year joinery apprentice currently working within our Projects Division, represented Warrington College in the regional finals held in late April. Simon conducted himself very well and was awarded third place, receiving commendation and praise for both himself and Warrington College.
Chris Alessandra a 3rd year Painter & Decorator (WBS Apprentice of the Year 2007) working within our Housing Regeneration, represented Oldham College in the regional finals again held in late April. Chris again conducted himself excellently and received good feedback from the judges but unfortunately did not appear in the first three placements.
Founded in 1981, SKILLBUILD is the National Competition for young people training within the construction industry. The competition is organized by SKILLBUILD Competitions limited, a non-profit making construction skills and training promoter, with an independent Steering Committee drawn from all sectors of the industry. The competition is endorsed by ConstructionSkills (CITB), The Department for Education and Skills and UK Skills and major sponsors include Hanson Brick, Akzo Nobel (Crown Trade Paints) British Gypsum and Makita Tools.
Each year trainees are invited from Colleges of Further Education and independent training centres throughout the United Kingdom, initially to take part in a series of regional competitions. Regional competitions are designed to identify the best regional competitor to take part in the National Competition. The National Competition identifies the best young trainee in the United Kingdom within each trade discipline.
Tony Costello, HR and Training Manager said, “This is a fantastic achievement for Simon and Chris and recognition for the faculty at Warrington College. Everyone at WBS plays a part in the development of our future talent and I thank you all for your support!”
